Every week, Boost brings you insights straight from the writers in our Creative Network. Writers share tips on how to inject more creativity into ads, best practices for writing ad copy, and more. This week, Dylan Barmmer, pen name “wordisborn” who has been an active writer in the Network for over five years, discusses the power of words in conversions.

Deep down, we all want to be liked and appreciated. The same goes for our businesses and brands.

No business owner or brand manager wants customers to feel anything but affection for their products, services, and overall existence. But as good as being liked and appreciated feels, being depended upon and needed is even better.

You know you’re really winning as a brand when your customers feel they simply cannot live without you. And the only way to stay in business over time is to compel conversions.

In that spirit, we’d like to share some insight into how you can compel conversions in your digital advertising efforts. Specifically, how you can use POWERFUL words to get people to buy into your brand – and buy your products or services.

Be Direct. Be Bold. Be Brave.

It has been said that fortune favors the bold. Of course, it’s also been said that good things come to those who wait. We prefer to err on the side of the former, and forget the latter bit of advice. If you want to stay in business, you need to go after business.

So tell your consumers what you have to offer. Don’t beat around the bush. Don’t mince words. Don’t get lost in flowery prose. Figure out what makes your product or service offering special, unique, or necessary. And sell your customers on that differentiator.

Embrace the POWER of Language.

Language is a powerful tool. Or at least it can be. When you meander around in circles, talk in riddles, or just flat-out bore your audience, then language and words start to lose their power.

So choose your words wisely. Especially when crafting a digital ad, where you only have so much space to work with. Use words that convey powerful concepts, ideas, emotions, and actions. Be sure to sound certain of your brand and its offerings. Don’t delay when it comes to communicating what you have to offer.

Find your message. Fine-tune your message. Then hammer it home. HARD. In a cool, captivating fashion.

Confident, Not Cocky.

Remember, however, there is a fine line between confident and cocky. There is a thin veneer separating assertive and annoying. So be sure to learn where that line is. And don’t continually cross it. Or you’ll lose customers, which means you’ll lose business and money.

Be confident. Then speak in a confident manner and tone. Don’t be afraid to have a little fun along the way, either.
